We here at DL are big fans of our Call of Duty. The launch of the Elite application for Android a few months ago was just*disappointing*to say the least but to Activision's credit they worked to fix most of the problems quickly. News today has it that Activision is now working on a tablet optimized version of the application for us Android users. With the amount of information that Elite gathers in each game a tablet application could be pretty crazy. Let's just hope that it works well when it launches this time.Via: Android Central

The recent fiasco surrounding Google Wallet being exploited through root has forced a lot of Android users and developers to take a look at security on their phones. CyanogenMod has released a PSA of sorts explaining some of their recent patches to CM9 and tells us why root was the main focus.
… All Custom ROMs (CyanogenMod included) ship with one major security risk — root!
This is the basis of the Google Wallet scandal. When on a rooted phone, applications are at risk of having data accessed and this is why Google has taken the stance of saying Google Wallet is unsupported when on a rooted phone. Cyanogen's new patches disable root in a selective way which allows for a bit more security on your phone.
The patches change root as followed:
The CyanogenMod team didn't want to go so far as to change the root ecosystem as it is now but still offer a way to keep it in check on user's phones. The changes allow the user to decide what gets root and when, whether it be through ADB or allowing Apps to have access. CM admits "shipping root enabled by default to 1,000,000+ devices was a gaping hole" but they are trying to stem the tide with this change. One note though is that CM cannot do anything for unlocked bootloaders and recovery, those still remain issues that cannot be tackled, "there is little to nothing we can do on that front." Another awesome application to come out of the Play Store today is the FoxFi app. It allows you to use WiFi and Bluetooth tethering on your phone without the added cost of a tethering plan on your carrier's bill. The best part is there is no root required either so you can install and be up and running in minutes. The app allows you to create networks to use with tablets, laptops or gaming consoles even and lets you create a SSID and password all to your liking. There are many phones supported but there are a few that FoxFi is still working on getting up and running. Users with the Galaxy Nexus and DROID RAZR are reporting no problems whatsoever so head on over to the Play Store and start tethering.Play LinkCheers Steve, Aaron, and Mike!

A custom status bar that goes where you go, done WP7 style!
StatusBar+ is the FIRST custom status/ notification bar for Android, no root or custom ROM required! It works in any orientation and appears consistently for ANY application. It is designed to look and function like the status bar used in Window Phone 7. As such, using the default configurations, you should see a black strip where your normal status bar would appear with a digital clock on the right-hand side. Click the status bar to watch the other indicators drop down.
