Asus Pushing Out Updates to TF700 and TF300 Tablets, Bug Fixes and More Posted: 17 Sep 2012 03:56 PM PDT It may not be Jelly Bean*for the Infinity, but users can begin to download updates for both the Transformer Infinity (TF700) and Transformer Pad (TF300). For the TF700, it looks like ASUS is bumping up the firmware for the camera and have also simplified the boot animation. Once we get a full changelog, we can update the post. For the TF300, ASUS has already rolled out Jelly Bean so this is more of a*maintenance*update with some bug fixes and improved performance. Well, guess I’ll throw this out there – where’s Jelly Bean for the Prime? I’m still waiting, ASUS. Via: XDA Cheers Ben, Nick,*SteveG1253, and Joelseph! |
Barista Bot and Intergalactic Series 3 Android Collectibles Revealed Posted: 17 Sep 2012 03:56 PM PDT Two new Series 3 Android collectibles were revealed over the last couple of days – Intergalactic and Barista Bot. The Intergalactic collectible is a take on the outfits worn by the Beastie Boys in their big hit titled “Intergalactic,” while the Barista Bot is a silly take on the Andrew Bell’s time as a barista at his sister’s coffee shop. This series keeps getting better by the day.*Hopefully we get an official release date in the next few days. All in One WiFi Hotspot and USB Tether by SVTP, an Alternative to FoxFi Posted: 17 Sep 2012 03:56 PM PDT We received a tip about a WiFi and USB tethering application made by SVTP, which as Android users, we love. For those who tend to have troubles with FoxFi, you may want to give this one a try. There are two*versions: free and professional. The difference between the two is quite large actually, seeing as how the paid version is a whopping $15. That price tag may seem a bit outrageous, but for software that just works and allows for free tethering, it’s up to you whether you think that price is worth it.* Best piece of advice I could give is to try out the free version first to see if it works best for you. The free version allows for two days of free tethering, then you are limited to just 5 minutes of tethering once per day. Kind of a downer, but sometimes that’s all you need. Plus, a one-time $15 fee is better in the big scheme of things than the $30 per month most carriers charge. Try it out and let us know if you like it over FoxFi. Play Link ($14.99) Cheers Stew! |
Ice Cream Sandwich for Verizons Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE Rolling Out Now Posted: 17 Sep 2012 03:56 PM PDT Over the weekend, we first reported that Samsung and Verizon had approved the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE. Only one of our readers had received the update as of yesterday, but according to Big Red, it should be rolling out in phases to everyone. Here are the highlights according to VZW: The upgrade features the Browser Desktop View for Internet browsing and Data Usage widget, allowing users to monitor data usage. Ice Cream Sandwich also offers an updated Quick Panel for quick access to frequently used settings. Did you receive this update yet? Does anyone own this tablet? (Only half kidding.)Additional Ice Cream Sandwich highlights include a redesigned gallery app with Photo Editor and Email Composer to send quick emails. Via: *Verizon Cheers Micah and Kerry! |
Full Trailer for Bad Piggies Released, What Does This Have to do With Angry Birds? Posted: 17 Sep 2012 03:56 PM PDT We’ve been looking forward to seeing some gameplay of Rovio’s newest creation, Bad Piggies for quite some time. It is a sequel (for lack of better word) to Angry Birds, based around those pesky pigs. Today, the first gameplay trailer is out and boy, am I disappointed. Take that top image as a good example of what you’re about to watch. Silly gameplay and silly everything else. From what we can gather, the point is to build flying contraptions, which to my knowledge, has really nothing to do with Angry Birds or stealing their eggs. The game is set for release on September 27, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what Rovio’s intentions are with this title. Thoughts? Via: Yahoo |
Mysterious 5 Inch HTC Device Shown in Press Render, Might Be Called One X 5 Posted: 17 Sep 2012 03:56 PM PDT These days, you have to even take press renders with a grain of salt, but could this be the final rendering of the 5 inch HTC phone/tablet hybrid we have been hearing rumors about lately? We must say, the black and red is looking pretty good on this device, and would hopefully point it squarely in Verizon’s direction. And we also have a tentative name for this beast of a phone: the One X 5. Update: *The image above is a concept image by Flickr user Dannix. It’s not real, meaning the name won’t be HTC One X 5. Well, unless he’s just calling this a “concept” to keep HTC’s legal department off his case. We’re leaning towards it simply being a pretty picture. The artist also created a concept for the next HTC Flyer device which looks fancy, but again, is also just a concept. 1080p screen, quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor and LTE packed inside the awesome build quality that the One series already has – what else do you want from a phone? This certainly looks like the pictures of the “dlx” device that we first uncovered in a benchmark a couple of months back. A rumor over the weekend suggested that it may also contain 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a non-removable battery, and a display with 480 ppi.HTC has a press event lined up for Wednesday, could we see this device being announced or will HTC make us wait a little bit longer?Via:*Engadget |
Kindle Fire HD Bootloaders Locked Tight, XDA Developers Begin Plan of Attack Posted: 17 Sep 2012 03:56 PM PDT Over the weekend, word got out through testers and developers that the new Kindle Fire HD lineup was going to be locked up tight by Amazon. According to*kinfauns, who is a contributor over at XDA, the Kindle Fire’s bootloaders are signed and designed for HS (high security) devices. Oh, gee, well that just sounds lovely. So much for those who were hoping to remove Amazon’s custom Android skin in favor of stock Jelly Bean. Of course, it’s well known developers love a good challenge. You can expect work to start as soon as shipments start arriving at doorsteps. We’ll keep you posted on any progress made. Via: XDA |
Google Acquires Makers of Snapseed, Looks to Offer Better Photo Goodies on Google+ Posted: 17 Sep 2012 03:56 PM PDT This morning, Google’s Vic Gundotra took to his Google+ account to announce the company’s newest purchase, Nik Software. The software company is known best for their Snapseed application which is one of the more popular image editing apps found on Macs and iOS platforms. It has also won iPad App of the Year in 2011 and can be best compared to Instagram, where using filters and other tools can turn your boring photos into something people may want to tolerate.* No specifics on the purchase have been announced, such as price or purpose, but along with the*announcement*of acquisition, Vic also threw out some big Google+ numbers. According to the newest crunching of numbers, there are over 500+ million Google+ accounts open, with 100 million of those being active users. With Vic tying the both together, we get the sense that Google will be utilizing Nik’s expertise in enhancing photo sharing and editing on Google+ and other platforms. Cool, right? We were introduced to*new RAZRs from Motorola, the first Windows 8 phones from Nokia, a new iPhone, and new Kindles.
