Wikipad Gaming Tablet Launch Delayed, No New Date Given

Posted: 31 Oct 2012 04:55 PM PDT

For those waiting to get their hands on the gaming tablet known as the Wikipad, you’re going to be waiting a bit longer according to a press release from their development team. Launch was scheduled for today, but Wikipad has contacted their*retail*partners and have said that due to*enhancements*that should be made before release, they will continue work and delay it until when they feel it is ready.
The Wikipad team has been relentlessly working with our manufacturers and partners to perfect the Wikipad bundle to ensure our first product is the best tablet and entertainment experience at launch.* There is a last minute opportunity to enhance the Wikipad bundle as well as a minor refinement needed to ensure our first customers are completely satisfied with the Wikipad.
We have informed our retail partners about this delay.* For those who pre-ordered the Wikipad at GameStop through today October 31st, we will deliver the refined and upgraded bundles as well as a special bonus gift with the pre-order.
We are very eager to deliver the Wikipad experience and are passionate about excellence.* We apologize for this delay and want you to know that we are committed to bringing you the very best, high-end gaming tablet possible.
We are in the final stage and will be announcing the new date soon.
THE WIKIPAD TEAM
Kind of unfortunate that no new date has been set, but at least they’re trying to put out the best product they can. Was anyone going to be lining up at their local Gamestop for this bad boy?

Video: Hands-on With Photo Sphere and Camera App From Android 4.2

Posted: 31 Oct 2012 04:55 PM PDT

Today, we posted up the*camera*apk from Android 4.2. We have finally pulled ourselves away from the desk long enough to go outside and try out Photo Sphere*which we’re very happy with so far. Down below, I go over the basic*enchantments*that Google has done with the app’s UI and then after that I take Photo Sphere on a test drive. Check it out.*

Google Experienced Short Outage Across Multiple Services

Posted: 31 Oct 2012 04:55 PM PDT

The internet felt as if it had died moments ago, as almost all of Google’s services seemed to have experienced an outage. The outage only lasted a couple of minutes at most, but Gmail, Voice, Reader, Google+, YouTube, etc. were all down.
Hopefully, you all survived. There may have been a minor freakout happening over at DL HQ…

Upload Your Photo Sphere Images With Google Maps and Share With The World

Posted: 31 Oct 2012 04:55 PM PDT

Much as we assumed yesterday and heard rumors of, after taking a Photo Sphere image on your Android*device, users can then choose to upload the images via Google Maps for use in Google’s Street View application. Awesome, right? It marks the GPS location of the photo and then makes it available for others to view on Google Earth, Google+, and even Google Search.*
To me, this is an interesting way for Google to allow their own users to make their services more robust. Soon, there will be Street Views of almost every place on earth and it just makes their services even better for everyone.
Good move, Google.

Wednesday Poll: What Would It Take to Get You to Buy the LG Nexus 4?

Posted: 31 Oct 2012 04:55 PM PDT

On Monday, after Google announced the LG Nexus 4, we asked the DL community if they were ready to buy one. Almost 70% of readers said “No” for a variety of reasons. The lack of LTE came up quite a bit, the lack of removable storage and the limited internal storage were there as well. Most of you are Verizon customers, so the fact that the phone won’t work on their network was also a big negative.
If there was something that you could definitively change though, that would get you to pull the trigger, what would it be? Would it need to be subsidized on Verizon? What if it had LTE, but was only available on AT&T? You tell me.

AT&T and T-Mobile Sharing Network Bandwith to Help After Hurricane Sandy

Posted: 31 Oct 2012 04:55 PM PDT

Hurricane Sandy might finally be clearing up, but the destruction left in her wake is just now starting to be assessed. Millions are without power at this moment and everyone is trying to check to make sure their loved ones are OK. Sandy didn’t ease up on our precious cell towers, so to shoulder the load of all those calls,*AT&T and T-Mobile have announced that they are partnering up to help the people affected in the New York and New Jersey area.T-Mo and AT&T have reached an agreement to allow customers from the other network to roam on theirs without interruption. If you place a call, your phone will connect to whichever network is working better in that area, be it AT&T or T-Mobile. It’s a little bit of good faith on both the networks’ parts to help people that are recovering from the Hurricane. It also might be a little bit of a nod to the FCC letting them know that these two networks can work well enough together, maybe even well enough to merge.
AT&T and T-Mobile Open Networks to Customers of Both Carriers in New York and New Jersey
DALLAS & BELLEVUE, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–In the wake of destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy, AT&T and T-Mobile are taking extraordinary measures to make sure our customers can stay in touch.
AT&T and T-Mobile have entered into an agreement to enable roaming on their networks to customers of both companies in the heavily impacted areas and where capacity is available and for subscribers with a compatible device.
AT&T and T-Mobile customers will be able to place calls just as they normally would, but their calls will be carried by whichever network is most operational in their area. This will be seamless for AT&T and T-Mobile customers with no change to their current rate plans or service agreements even if the phone indicates the device is attached to the other carrier’s network.
T-Mobile and AT&T both utilize network technology based on GSM and UMTS standards, which allows for this sharing of voice and data traffic.

Posted: 31 Oct 2012 04:55 PM PDT

Today,*Google*has*announced*the ability to share your important or not-so-important documents from Google Drive right to your Google+*profile. People in your*circles*that you*select on the share page can then view the files while others are left in the cold. This is a great example of how Google is tying all of their services together. So far, you can share PDF files, videos, slideshows, and more.
Go give it the rundown if you’re so inclined.

Video: A Day in the Life of LeBron James With a Galaxy Note 2

Posted: 30 Oct 2012 03:58 PM PDT

Now that our jealous attitude towards LeBron James’ special edition, engraved Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has died down a bit, he’s returned to show us exactly what he has been up to with his new phone. Think haircuts, taking pictures of beautiful ocean views, hitting up a food truck, receiving texts from Magic Johnson, chatting with old coaches, watching dunk videos on YouTube, snapping pics of his new $300 Nikes, and of course, documenting the night that he is to receive his first ever NBA championship ring (which is tonight).

Rope Rescue for Android, The Perfect Mix of Cut the Rope and Angry Birds

Posted: 30 Oct 2012 03:58 PM PDT

Why didn’t I think of this? From Untame Games, comes a game called Rope Rescue that matches the cuteness of the Angry Birds characters and combines it with the brain-busting puzzle-like fun of Cut the Rope. You’re given a single bird whose mission is to set free the caged bird. You grab a rope and use it with pulleys and gears to set the other bird free. Naturally, the game gets increasingly difficult as you progress.*

Download: Android 4.2 Keyboard With Gesture Typing (Probably an Early Build)

Posted: 30 Oct 2012 03:58 PM PDT

Hey, look! It’s the Android 4.2 keyboard pulled from a Nexus 4 dump! It’s probably an early build, hence the ugly white and blue floating word prediction, which is unlike the subtle floating word prediction that Hugo Barra showed off yesterday. No matter what though, it’s neat to use and it works well. It predicts on the fly, corrects as needed, and flows like butter.*

Flip Launcher for Android – Convenient App Launching With The Flick of a Finger

Multitasking – one of the many reasons why Android lovers can’t get enough of the OS. Well, here’s an app that will make switching through apps even easier on you. It’s called Flip Launcher and it runs on top of whatever launcher you are currently running. It places “flippers” on the side of the display which can be customized with themes and transparency options, which are then pulled out showing 4 apps. You can have up to 6 flippers at once, each containing 4 apps. That’s a lot of apps.
There are plenty of cool options to change the look of the flippers and yes, you can choose which side the flippers are on. It’s neat for anyone who finds themselves needing a quicker way of accessing their favorite applications. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Tuesday Poll: Which New Nexus Device Are You Most Excited For?

Posted: 30 Oct 2012 03:58 PM PDT

Yesterday, Google dropped a whole new line of hardware on us and we’re still going over them, figuring out which device has us more excited than the others. We have the Nexus 4, with its high-end specs, but lack of LTE. There is the new Nexus 10, a stunning device with an extremely high resolution for a price that is incredibly competitive, and last but certainly not least, we have the new Nexus 7 with 32GB of storage and HSPA+ radios built in.
We went over the pros and cons of the new devices in last night’s Droid Life Show, and I think we pretty much summed up that with the lack of LTE, the Nexus 4 is a good device, but could be a letdown to some. Sure, it has an amazing quad-core processor and a nice display, but with no LTE, it doesn’t meet a very simple standard that many buyers are looking for. As for the Nexus 10, we have yet to get our hands on one, but initially, we’re definitely excited. The display itself basically takes the cake on this one. And as for our dear friend the Nexus 7, you can do no wrong in our eyes.
Let us know which new device has you most excited from yesterday. It’s certainly not an easy choice and each has its own market to appeal to. Let’s hear your thoughts!

Need for Speed Most Wanted Released to Google Play, You Might Want to Hold On

Posted: 30 Oct 2012 03:58 PM PDT

Big day for apps, as EA Games just released Need for Speed Most Wanted to Google Play. From what we can see in the trailer and press images, the game looks like one major piece of work – highly detailed sports cars, extreme environments, and the ability to compete with friends across multiple platforms such as iOS, Android, and Kindle devices.*
The game also brings a pretty high price tag at $6.99, but for the bad boy in all of us, it’s most likely one of the best extreme driving*experiences*you can get on mobile. Check the trailer below and get hyped up with me.
