Retailer Listing for GSM Capable Nexus 7 Gives Us Some Hope

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 06:07 PM PDT

According to all of the Nexus 7 talk as of late, Google does seem to have big plans for their tablet line as we head into Q4. Talks of a 32GB model, a $99 variant, along with a possible 3G-packed version. Could it be? As seen in a leaked retailer listing, a Nexus 7 with GSM and WCDMA connectivity does exist, but it’s hard to tell if this is real or will ever be made available. Basically, it’s just too early to tell.*
According to Germany’s Tablet Blog, the tablet with 3G capabilities will only come in a 32GB model. Just one more hint at the possibility of this device actually existing. Google does indeed have some sort of big Android*announcement*planned for the end of the month, so fingers crossed we receive answers to our many questions.

Google Play Tweet Confirms Verizon Carrier Billing for Apps, Music, and More

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 06:07 PM PDT

Just two days ago, we received a tip that carrier billing for Verizon customers would go live on Google Play starting today. Like clockwork, the following tweet was sent out from Google Play’s Twitter account, confirming our earlier reports.
Hey @Verizon*Customers! Pay for Google Play apps, music and more on your phone bill. We’re rolling this out over the coming weeks. Enjoy!
Well, that about sums it up. Carrier billing has finally arrived for us Verizon customers. As a reminder, according to the image we spoke on earlier, there could be a $25 limit set for how much you can charge to your VZW account. Once it starts rolling out to users, we can learn more about it. Let us know when you start seeing the option.

Chaos Rings Hits Android, Hope You Have $13 and 1GB of Free Space

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 06:07 PM PDT

Oh yea, an official port of Chaos Rings has landed on Android. The game, which is extremely popular among classic RPG players, is going to push your device to the limits. With full 3D graphics and epic dialogue, this game is no joke. And for the price of $13, I would hope not.*
The game is centered around a battle arena, where warriors that you choose, fight for their lives. Each character has their own story and the truth behind the game’s main setting won’t be revealed until completion of all of the stories. It’s no doubt one of the most epic stories/games on Android. The question is, is a mobile game worth $13? The thousands of people who purchased*Final*Fantasy would say so.

Thursday Poll: Is the RAZR HD or RAZR MAXX HD Your Next Phone?

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 06:07 PM PDT

Since today has quickly turned into DROID RAZR HD day, we figured we may as well get this poll out of the way and find out how many of you are going to buy this phone. Both should manage to outlast any other phone on the market, thanks to their massive batteries. The build quality, in my short few days with them, has been impressive. The display is nice, but not the best on the market. The camera is definitely not going to win any awards. But, the speaker is awesome, though. Overall, these phones appear to be a solid package with a mix of positives and negatives.
My review will be up in the next couple of days, but for now, we’d love to see how many are already sold on Motorola’s newest RAZR family members.
Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Reminder: Don’t Forget to Check Out the First Episode of The Droid Life Show

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 06:07 PM PDT

For those who missed it last night, the first episode of The Droid Life Show*can be viewed in its entirety. It’s about an hour long and should go down every Wednesday night at 6:00PM Pacific. Since this was our first ever attempt, it’s pretty raw, but we had a great time. Some changes are definitely in store, like better cameras for some, less pets, and more plaid shirts. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
Oh, and did I mention a massive giveaway for next week’s show?

DROID Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich Update Finally Approved as Build 6.7.246

Video: DROID RAZR MAXX HD vs. RAZR HD – Unboxing Too

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 06:07 PM PDT

One of the questions we have seen more times than we can count over the last couple of weeks has been, “What should I get, the RAZR HD or RAZR MAXX HD?” While I can’t necessarily answer that for you today, what I can do is do a quick comparison of the devices side-by-side.
Since the only differences between the two are battery size (2530mAh vs. 3300mAh) and internal storage amount (16GB vs. 32GB), we were wondering how much thickness would be added to the RAZR MAXX HD over the regular version. If you take a look at our video and photos in this post, you’ll notice that there isn’t much of a difference. In fact, its so minimal, that it’s tough to capture on film. In hand, it’s even more difficult to tell, other than a slightly thicker bottom portion that feels better in hand on the MAXX HD.
Off to battery testing we go!*

Google Q3 Earnings: $2.18B Profit On $14.1B Revenue Despite Morning’s Stock Fiasco

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 06:07 PM PDT

This morning, everyone’s eyes are on Q3 earnings call numbers and unfortunately, Google has had a rough day so far. After an unauthorized printing and release of the search giant’s Q3 fiscal records, their stock instantly took a major hit of 9%, before trading was halted on the NASDAQ.*
Earlier this morning RR Donnelley, the financial printer, informed us that they had filed our draft 8K earnings statement without authorization. We have ceased trading on NASDAQ while we work to finalize the document. Once it's finalized we will release our earnings, resume trading on NASDAQ and hold our earnings call as normal at 1:30 PM PT.
One of the highlights that was noted was the fact that Google cut its full-time workforce from*54,604 to*53,546 since June of this year. In all, Q3 earnings were down about 20 percent from last year’s, still*profiting*$2.18 billion on $14.1 billion when compared to last year’s*$2.73 billion on $9.72 billion third quarter. In terms of cash, Google is still loaded with roughly $45.7 billion in the bank.
Google’s CEO, Larry Page gave the following statement on the company’s quarter:
We had a strong quarter. Revenue was up 45 percent year-on-year, and, at just fourteen years old, we cleared our first $14 billion revenue quarter. I am also really excited about the progress we're making creating a beautifully simple, intuitive Google experience across all devices.
Well, it looks like Larry’s thoughts are in the right spot for us at least – mobile devices! Google is hosting an investor’s call in about 20 minutes where we’ll be listening in for further details or anything Android related.

Madfinger Releases Update to Shadowgun: DeadZone Beta, Tons of Fixes Inside

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 06:07 PM PDT

Today, the makers of Shadowngun: DeadZone, a game that I can’t get enough of lately, pushed out the first major update to the beta. Major enhancements to performance, gametype edits such as taking away turrets in Deathmatch, and the adding of fall damage are just a few things off the huge list of changes.
List of changes:

  • Fixed several bugs
  • Performance optimalization
  • Fixed lagging
  • Added throwing grenades during the movement
  • Added fall damage
  • Mines and Sentry Guns are disabled in Deathmatch mode now
  • Improved ragdolls
  • Fixed radar in Zone Control mode
  • Balanced weapons
  • Improved team balancing
  • Added special effects for spawning

Over-powered weapons and equipment are some of the things that could kill a game like this, but Madfinger seems to be staying right on top of it all and making sure their users remain happy. If you haven’t played me yet, come find me in a lobby and get whooped.
