Hold Screen ON: Face detection v1.47 Posted: 02 Oct 2012 04:55 PM PDT Hold Screen ON: Face detection v1.47 Requirements: Android 2.3+ Overview: Keep the screen on while you are looking on it! This application act as service and use front camera of your phone for face detection. When the face is detected, the application will prevent the locking of phone's screen. Just keep the screen on while you are looking on it. By other words, this app works like a Samsung Galaxy S3 Smart Stay feature but can detects eyes too. Features:
PLEASE NOTE: When service or preview window is active, you can see a single dot (which can have different color and brightness) at the top right corner of the desktop, just behind the time. It is normal. It is a one and only possible one way to grab content from the camera of some android devices (like HTC One, Galaxy Nexus etc). If your front camera have low resolution or small viewing angle, try to use eyes detection instead of face detection. This application uses your phone's camera only during the face scanning. By default, it is 3 frame every 5 seconds. Between these intervals, you can run any other application which can lock and use the camera. What's in this version : (Updated : Oct 1, 2012)

I remember the day of the invasion well. The memories still burn deeply, like spicy chicken wings. They came without warning, squawking menacingly, their ruffled feathers darkening the sun. Galaxy Nexus Drops to $50 at Verizon on Two-year Contract Posted: 02 Oct 2012 04:12 PM PDT Still contemplating the purchase of a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon? How does $49.99 sound? Big Red appears to have dropped the price to that today after adding a “Promo” discount on top of a long-standing “Online” discount. We don’t necessarily think that this means a replacement phone such as the Galaxy Nexus 2 is on the horizon, but is instead a sign that Big Red is cleaning house to make room for the Galaxy Note 2, RAZR HD (and MAXX HD), Spectrum 2, Lumia 920, HTC 8X, and of course, the DROID Incredible X*- all of which should be available by the end of November. The Galaxy Nexus remains one of my favorite phones of all time even with its atrocious battery life. You just can’t beat the developer community that comes with a Nexus. Via: *Verizon Cheers Nico! |
Lockitron Aims to Manage Your Home Door Locks From Anywhere in the World Posted: 02 Oct 2012 04:12 PM PDT Are you ready for the future of home door locks? Lockitron is introducing a new WiFi front door lock system that should work seamlessly with your existing front door lock, turning it into a home security system that can be managed from anywhere in the world via phone. Unlike other tech-inspired locks, this doesn’t replace your lock, it simply slips over top of it and is then managed through an Android app or web interface.* Once installed, you can use your Android smartphone (or any mobile phone for that matter) to unlock your door easily through an app or via text message. You can manage users who have access to it, specify a time for those users to have access, maintain that list of users via web interface, unlock or lock using that same interface, or use Bluetooth 4.0 at your door, so that you don’t even have to take your phone out. The Lockitron app will even notify you if someone has knocked on your door, thanks to a sensor inside. Oh, it does NFC too. This new Lockitron is not out yet, but you can reserve one today for $149. This reservation means you will be a part of the first batch to go out in March 2013. So you know, you aren’t charged the $149 today, but are instead holding a spot in line. It comes in 3 color variations, so hopefully one will match your current decor. Via: *Lockitron Cheers Jared! |
Samsung to Announce Galaxy SIII Mini in Germany on October 11? Posted: 02 Oct 2012 04:12 PM PDT Today,*Samsung Germany has started to send out invites to the press for a special*announcement*that many are assuming to be for*the*Galaxy S3 Mini. The Mini, which was first rumored in August, is said to sport the same overall look of the Galaxy S3, but come in a 4″ form factor and be powered by Jelly Bean and a dual-core processor. As for invite itself, it most certainly pokes at the idea of a Galaxy S3 Mini. Something small will be really big. Get ready for a little sensation. As for this thing coming to the States, there’s no word yet. We’ll have to wait until the 11th to find out anymore info. Would be kind of nice to see this phone in a smaller variant possibly.Interested? Via: Phandroid |
Infographic: 7 Things You Wanted to Know About Android Users Posted: 02 Oct 2012 04:12 PM PDT The folks over at Mr. Number have thrown together this infograph that shows some habits of your typical Android user and how they use their device. According to their research, about 85% of Android owners text someone everyday and that 63% of owners say they don’t want any new iPhone, no matter what the price. Sweet.* The title is a bit confusing as I wasn’t necessarily out looking for this info, but it’s interesting info to say the least. Cheers Aaron! |
Sky Gamblers: Rise Of Glory Fantastic Graphics and Rich Multiplayer Makes for Air S Posted: 02 Oct 2012 04:12 PM PDT I stumbled upon Sky Gamblers: Rise of Glory today *in Google Play and so far, I really like it. With a great mix of easy to learn controls, engaging gameplay, and cool old planes, it’s definitely worth checking out. Basically, you take the controls of old fighter planes and engage in various dogfight missions. What gives the game even more credit is that there’s a fantastic online multiplayer with game types such as Team Deathmatch, Defend the Base, and Capture the Flag. The game comes with 12 campaign missions, but you can also purchase a “full” version via in-app purchase for $4.99 which unlocks more planes and more story line.*The*controls and graphics are certainly worth that price if you plan on really getting into this title. If I had one thing to complain about, it’s that I wish there was a game like this but with modern planes. I’ll trade these ancient machines for an F-16 any day. Motorola Withdraws Entire Suit Against Apple With ITC, We Wonder Why? Posted: 02 Oct 2012 04:12 PM PDT This story about patent battles is unlike any that we have heard of yet. Motorola has suddenly decided to pull their claims against Apple in the International Trade Committee. There isn’t much talk of why this happened just yet, but you have to think that Google might have had a hand in this.*Rumor has it that Motorola was having trouble getting their evidence in order for the legal proceedings, but it doesn’t matter much anymore.Motorola was seen as having one of the best legal shots against Apple with their huge intellectual property collection, so this is a bit odd. Especially knowing that the filing for this move mentions that “there are no agreements between Motorola and Apple, written or oral, express or implied, concerning the subject matter of this investigation.”Could high-level talks between Apple and Google be going on?Via:*FOSS Patents |
Pew Research: Android Up to 48% of U.S. Tablet Sales, iPad Drops to Low of 52% Posted: 02 Oct 2012 04:12 PM PDT A new study from the Pew Research Center has pegged Android at a spot in the tablet market that we didn’t think would come this early in the game. In the year of 2012, Android holds a whopping 48% of all U.S. tablet sales, bringing Apple’s iPad into reach at just 52%. Although, Amazon’s Kindle Fire accounts for a hefty 21% of Android’s tablet market success. And do keep in mind, these numbers do not reflect Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HD sales yet.* The study also shows the world sales data, which differs quite a bit. According to the report, Apple still holds a commanding 61% of the world’s tablet market with Android coming in at a much lower 31%. But hey, things are looking up for Google’s Android. Once numbers are published reflecting the seemingly popular Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD tabs, these numbers are sure to change a wee bit. Via: 9to5 Google |
Study: Galaxy S3 Display Superior to the iPhone 5 Posted: 02 Oct 2012 04:12 PM PDT According to a study performed by IHS, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has a better display than the “retina” display on the new iPhone 5. Their research shows that the Galaxy S3′s display is just 1.1mm thick and*offers the full color gamut of the NTSC standard. The iPhone 5, on the other hand, has a display which measures in at*1.5 millimeters thick and offers only 72 percent of the standard color gamut.* Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the viewing experience is going to be better on the GS3, but that in terms of technology, it’s technically better because of its thickness and color representation. In fact, DisplayMate ran their usual tests whenever a new flagship device is released and came the the conclusion that the new iPhone’s display comes in 2nd only to the new iPad, with the Galaxy S3 sitting at a distance. And of course, each display will look different to varying sets of eyes. What we do know, is that the Galaxy Note 2 has an improved display even over the GS3, meaning Samsung is taking this display business seriously. Via: *CNET*| DisplayMate |
MEEP Xplore Tablet For Kids, Child Safe Android Fun for $150 Posted: 02 Oct 2012 04:12 PM PDT Here’s something parents can get into – we hear it all of the time, “My kid steals my tablet!” Well say “Hello” to MEEP. MEEP is a kid-safe Android tablet running Ice Cream Sandwich, powered by a 1GHz processor with 512MB of RAM. It’s strong enough to power today’s games, but not too nice to where it has to be priced unreasonably. The tablet has a 7″ display with zForce touch-screen technology which lets your kids get their sticky fingers all over it and also has a durable silicone exterior for those accident-prone children.* The tablet is priced at $149, which doesn’t seem too bad. It comes with a lot of custom software that is made specifically for parents and is a cheaper alternative to forking out the dough for a $400 slate. You can find out more on MEEP through their website. MEEP Tablet Site Click here to view the embedded video. |
Report: T-Mobile in Talks to Merge With MetroPCS Posted: 02 Oct 2012 04:12 PM PDT Reports out of both Bloomberg and Reuters this morning, speak of talks between Deutsche Telekom and MetroPCS, in hopes of merging T-Mobile with the smaller U.S. carrier. One source went as far as saying the “deal is close” while others were quick to point out that it’s “not certain” just yet. If this deal were to go down, you can imagine that it would immediately help boost T-Mobile who has been losing customers in droves after their attempted merger with AT&T was denied. There subscriber count would jump to over 40 million, they would likely gain similar spectrum to what they already own, and potentially, the strength to finally build out an LTE network. Nothing is official or final at this point, but the talks seem to be serious. Via: *Bloomberg | Reuters |
