Smart Keyboard Pro skin request

Hi all,

I am after this keyboard skin for the wife's phone but for free. Oh and it needs to work with a HTC Wildfire on 2.3.7

I know its only 61p but I think it is mad that some one wants to charge for modding a keyboard colour when there are loads out there for nothing (just a shame not that one or the other 300ish he has done.

Guide To Essentially Everything About iOS Devices




After days of hearing the same questions over and over again in the IRC channel I feel it is appropriate to have a general guide that is up to date at the time of posting as to what gets asked the most. Please let me know of anything you think should be added, removed, or edited.

This guide may not contain everything that you might want to know! Look through the forums if you have more questions!

Jailbreaking, fully explained:

This is a common topic that is looked at. Jailbreaking can be achieved through restoring a custom firmware file, in form of an IPSW, to your iPod or iPhone in order to be able to run unsigned code on it. In addition, this can come in the form of a USB exploit (the initial hole) which loads the payload (the stuff that allows unsigned code to run) onto your device. Finally, there is a userland exploit which allows you to load a payload directly from the device (i.e. jailbreakme/the PDF exploits). This is very handy in the fact that it allows you to download third party games, themes and other very useful utilities.

What is needed to get started:

To get started you will need to know what generation iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad you have. You also will need to know what firmware version you are on. Then, find the right tool below to jailbreak your device! Use these handy sites to find your device's jailbreaking capability: http://jailbrea.kr/ or http://pwnmyi.com/gui/.





What to know now that you're Jailbroken:

Most people look into jailbreaking in order to avoid paying for mostly crap that is found in the iTunes store. To work around this you will be using Installous. (Covered Below) To get Installous you will be using Cydia which is usually always included automatically when you jailbreak your device. (Also covered below)


Tethered vs Untethered vs Sem-Tethered:

Here is the basic difference between untethered and tethered:


  • With a tethered jailbreak, you have to "re-jailbreak" your iDevice every time you do a reboot. You will keep all your jailbroken/cracked apps but the iDevice will not boot until you hook it back up to your computer and rerun redsn0w/Sn0wbreeze.
  • Untethered is where you can reboot your device perfectly fine and are still able to run unsigned code without having to use a tool to boot. (For more technical details on this, google is your friend!)
  • Semi-tethered jailbreak allows you to reboot your device, but not without some consequences. After rebooting, you may not be able to run any Cydia jailbreak apps, and even some stock apps like Safari may be inaccessible. A Semi-Tethered jailbreak is normally a tethered jailbreak with a package installed that allows you to reboot with limited use. You must perform a tethered boot (see video for explanation) to regain full functionality to your jailbroken device. Much better than a tethered jailbreak, but not quite as good as the untethered variety.




Cydia, what it is and where to start:

Cydia is a 3rd party application for downloading and installing apps/utilities/other programs and libraries which use unsigned code (Not approved by apple). It should be on your springboard (Main screen) after you have jailbroken your device. It gets the information and files for downloading through repositories which are built in. In addition, some repositories (like our's!) need to be added manually by you. This is as simple as entering a URL and clicking "Add."

This is essentially why you're here. Most of the easily accessible information on it has become outdated or isn't exactly the easiest to read. With just a few simple steps however you can be on your way to having your own army of apps!

  • You will need to add the Hackulo.us repo, in Cydia click these things:
    Manage > Sources > Edit > Add > cydia.hackulo.us
  • Click on your now added repo (after pressing done in the top right) and then click on Installous > Install > Confirm and Installous will install along with Appsync (what allows you to install cracked apps) and other required dependencies (other stuff Installous needs to run).
  • REBOOT YOUR DEVICE!
  • Once back at your springboard (main page with app icons), press on the Installous icon to open the app.
  • Browse the Apptrackr directories by the different categories presented, pick your app, and hit download at the top. Then, select a download link and follow the host's download procedure. Finally, click Install and wait for the app to finish.
  • Now you're done!




Backing up and syncing Apps:

Installous makes this a painless process. Simply follow the steps below:

  • In Installous click Settings and then turn on "iTunes sync."
  • Plug in your iPod Touch/iPhone and begin to sync. It should ask you if you want to transfer your files to itunes. Click yes and it will begin to transfer your apps into your iTunes library on your computer.
  • They will then be there should some monster come and eat your device!


This also works in reverse:

  • Go to Apptrackr on your computer
  • Download the IPAs you want
  • Add them to iTunes library by simply dragging the file into iTunes
  • They will be installed to your device the next time you sync.



NOTE: One error that I have seen before is that iTunes will not read your Apps as standard iPhone apps, just go into Installous and turn iTunes Sync off and back on.


What an .IPSW file is:

An IPSWfile is an Apple Device Software Update file. It is use to update iPod touch/iPhone/iPad on iTunes.
You can find the IPSW file you download on iTunes here;
Mac OS X: ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
Windows Vista & Windows 7: \Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates



What an .IPA file is:

An IPA is a file that is used to install an iPod touch/iPhone/iPad Application to your device. It essentially is a compressed file (much like a .zip file) that your device uncompresses. You device then takes this file's contents and installs them to their respective locations and finally adds the bundled icon to your springboard (main page/home screen).

Cydia uses a debian package system and hence, you can use deb files to install applications on your iDevices. They are such installation files, which work on jailbroken iOS devices and are very easy to install/uninstall.


Themes, what to use:

Hop onto Cydia and do a search for Winterboard. This is the program that is used to customize the look of your device.
This includes custom icons, location of spring board dots, weather lock screens, touch to unlock options and much more.
ModMyi is a great source for works in progress, additional icons, add-ons and recent releases.


All about SHSH blobs and how to downgrade using them:

SHSH blobs will allow you to restore to a firmware that your device was previously on, in case the latest firmware isn't jailbreakable or if you just prefer an older firmware.


How to Crack, Upload, and Submit Apps to Apptrackr:

Do you want to be the next most_uniQue? Or maybe you just want to crack a couple of apps that you bought. Well, you can follow the simple visual guide on how to Crack, Upload, and Submit apps all using Appcrackr by WYSE: Crackulous Tutorial


Other cool things to check out on Cydia:

I figure I'll start adding to this now. (So far all of these are FREE, including plausible cost of Apps)

  • SBSettings: SBSettings is a must have app. SBSettings will let you control vital settings of your iPhone as easy as swiping your finger on the screen. (It does not work on iOS 5 betas!)
  • Winterboard: Winterboard allows you to customize Springboard of your iPhone. Using Winterboard you can change iPhone icons, customize applications, status bar graphics, iPhone dock graphics, install themes and change wallpapers of your iPhone Springboard. You can even customize sounds on your iPhone. With Winterboard you can theme almost everything that comes to your mind.



SSH, SFTP and USB Transfers:

SSH is a secure shell network protocol. Or what it means to most people, wireless file browsing.
If you are using the wireless SSH you will need OpenSSH which you can get from Cydia.
On a Mac this is very easily done by using Cyberduck
For PC I would recommend WinSCP.
This can also easily be done, on PC or Mac, via USB using Diskaid.
Using Cyberduck, all you have to do is connect your iPod Touch or iPhone to the same wireless network your computer is on. Bonjour should find your device and then you can click Bonjour to connect. When it asks for your user name and password, they are root and alpine respectively. Then you are in!
Diskaid you just plug and play, no setting up should be needed. One thing to check though is in the bottom right, use the drop down menu and choose root. Accept the warning message that comes up.

For Installous IPAs they go to "/private/var/mobile/Library/Documents/Installous Downloads" (no quotes)

Beyond this you will have to do your own searching, there are many great tutorials if you look around.
