It’s not a bad choice by any means. |
Congressman Promises to Limit FTCs Power if Anti-Trust Case is Brought Against Googl Posted: 15 Oct 2012 02:48 PM PDT The news that Google may have an FTC case on its hands isn’t even a week old, but it is looking to turn into quite the controversy already. The FTC has been investigating Google as to whether or not they favored their own products in search results over the products and links of other companies. Apparently a decision in the case is close, but one Representative is warning the FTC on their next course of action.*Democratic Representative from Colorado,*Jared Polis has warned the FTC, saying Congress will limit the Commission’s power if they bring a suit against Google. Polis said the move would be a “woefully misguided step that would threaten the very integrity of our anti-trust system.” Some very strongly worded arguments are being sent the FTC’s way. This is certainly some pretty strong political positioning. Congress has every right to limit the FTC if they see fit, but such a reaction seems a bit overzealous. Google has maintained that they have done nothing illegal with their search result rankings, but if Google is wrong in some way, shouldn’t the FTC be free to bring suit against them? This is shaping up to be a pretty big legal battle in one way or the other. What do you think of the Congressional message?Via:*BGR |
Video: New Quick Settings Menu in Android 4.2, Double Notification Menus Incoming? Posted: 15 Oct 2012 02:48 PM PDT Is Google looking to introduce a second notification menu in Android 4.2 that will contain quick settings? According to the video below,*purportedly*from from an LG Nexus 4 running Android 4.2, the build has a second pulldown menu with a placeholder image that reads “Future Site of Quick Settings.” Yep, it’s the picture you are seeing above. To access it, you will have to swipe down your main notification menu, followed by a second swipe down from your notification bar. The quick settings menu should then overlap your main notifications menu, giving you access to toggles for WiFi, Bluetooth, Airplane mode, etc. It’s actually a brilliant idea, but as you’ll see in the video, there are no quick settings there yet, just the placeholder image.* What do you guys think? Great idea? Horrible idea? Too confusing? “Finally!”? And what does this mean for Android 4.2? If the LG Nexus 4 is supposed to be here in a couple of weeks, is it going to launch with new software or not? Since this new menu is far from finished, maybe the device will launch with Android 4.1.2 and will receive an update shortly thereafter to 4.2? Via: *Android Police |
Costco Opens Up Pre-orders for the DROID RAZR HD, $189 on 2-year Contract Plus Free B Posted: 15 Oct 2012 02:48 PM PDT The DROID RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD are going to arrive this Thursday, October 18. Verizon confirmed it last week, however, they didn’t mention a pre-order period or a way for customers to reserve one early. Costco on the other hand, is down to let you pre-order today. If you want the RAZR HD, instead of the super battery charged MAXX HD, Costco will hook you up for $189 on 2-year contract, but will also toss in a navigation dock and battery charger for free. Verizon is selling the phone for $199 without bonus accessories. Via: *Costco Cheers Nick! |
Verizon Tweaks Changelog for Incredible 4G 2.17.605.2 Update, Removes Isis Support Se Posted: 15 Oct 2012 02:48 PM PDT Verizon announced a new update for the DROID Incredible 4G LTE last week, one that would include global roaming, their Remote Diagnostics tool, and support for Isis Mobile Wallet. In a semi-confusing move this morning, they tweaked the changelog for the update so that it no longer includes a mention of Isis. We reported last week that Isis was set to kick off on October 22 in two test markets and that the Incredible 4G LTE would be the signature launch phone from Verizon for it. This move doesn’t necessarily mean that this phone isn’t going to be the lead device, but maybe that Verizon doesn’t want the entire country of Inc 4G owners asking about Isis when only Austin, TX and Salt Lake City, UT owners will be able to use the mobile payment service. No matter what, this shouldn’t be cause for *concern. Isis will rollout nationwide before we know it, and our wallets will soon be replaced by phones. Assuming they are accepted into the program, that is. |

Echofon Alpha Twitter Client Released on Android Posted: 15 Oct 2012 02:48 PM PDT Echofon, one of the more popular iOS Twitter applications of all time, has been working on an alpha version of an Android app behind the scenes for a while now that we were just turned on to. In fact, the build is up to version 1.9 and was released over the weekend through their Twitter account.* After installing it, it’s obvious that they have followed Google’s app design guidelines, as it’s completely Holo-themed. There are two theme choices in either dark or light, you can swipe between tabs with the touch of a finger, and multi-account support for the power users will soon be added (option shows, but is not live yet). It has push notifications, notifications that work with Jelly Bean’s new notification bar, a variety of image hosting sites to choose from, and more. For being an “alpha,” this is a pretty impressive Twitter app. The only thing I’m not seeing so far, is conversation support, meaning you can’t see full conversations on Twitter. Download: *echofonalpha.apk To install, simply download to your phone, tap on the file when it finishes, and install. And by the way, how sexy is that “Verified” logo next to our account? Via: *Twitter Cheers to everyone who sent this! |
